And the exhibition, which includes work by other local photographers, will be screened at the Craigie Theatre on the Ayr Campus of the University of Paisley this Friday 14 January at 7.30pm.

About Ayr 800
In 2005 the historic town of Ayr in Scotland marks the 800th anniversary of King William the Lion of Scotland signing a Charter in 1205 proclaiming Ayr to be a Royal Burgh.
Ayr Guildry, an association of local business people which itself dates back to 1325, is currently organising Ayr 800, a 12 month long calendar of events to celebrate the anniversary throughout the year.
Dean of Ayr Guildry Brian Martin said today: “It seems fitting and appropriate to celebrate 800 years of Ayr’s history in as many different ways as possible.
“Since the inception of this project, I have been amazed to discover the number and diversity of clubs, associations and groups that flourish in our town. Ayr 800 will provide them all with a magnificent opportunity to play a prominent part in our year of celebrations.
“For people and businesses in the hospitality and tourism industry, Ayr 800 will provide the chance to attract visitors who might otherwise not have come to our town in 2005.
“And Ayr 800 will offer an additional platform for local businesses to promote their products, skills and services to the world."
Brian Martin concluded: “Regular updates to the calendar of events will be posted on the Ayr 800 website at www.ayr800.co.uk
“All businesses, clubs, societies and individuals who would like to take part in this great celebration of our town’s history will be most welcome, and should get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
Local Politicians Back Ayr 800
Local politicians have been queuing up to lavish praise on Ayr Guildry, the organisation of the town’s business people, for all their efforts to organise Ayr 800, the year-long calendar of events to celebrate the 800th anniversary in 2005 of Ayr being granted its Charter as a Royal Burgh.
Sandra Osborne MP said:
“I congratulate Ayr Guildry and the many other groups and organisations who are taking part in Ayr 800. We are fortunate to have a rich tapestry of history and culture in Ayr, and the recognition of our status as a Royal Burgh for 800 years is an excellent opportunity to celebrate our past, as well as look forward to a prosperous future. The ambitious calendar of events cannot fail to attract visitors from near and far, which can only enhance local business and tourism. I look forward to a very busy and enjoyable year for the whole community.”
Cathy Jamieson MSP:
“Ayr has a fascinating history and this is a great opportunity for us to celebrate some of the famous, and infamous, events in its past. It’s also important to remember that Ayr has an exciting present and future. I am proud to represent part of Ayr and I have found it to have a vibrant and active community spirit. I hope that people will take the opportunity to celebrate the last 800 years and look forward to a confident, exciting future.”
Phil Gallie MSP:
“What a problem Ayr 800 poses, the expression as to how to fit a quart into a pint pot (Imperial measures) comes to mind. The proposed programme holds something for everyone, and no doubt will be further stretched as 2005 gets underway. Well done to Ayr Guildry and all their willing and inventive supporters.”
And Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire chief executive Evelyn McCann added:
“Ayrshire has a rich and varied history and I’m delighted that Ayr Guildry has been able to organise such a diverse programme celebrating the past, present and future of the area.
"Tourism plays an important role in the economy of Ayrshire, and I have no doubt that Ayr 800 will bring even more visitors to the area.
"I’m delighted that the whole community has got behind the Ayr 800 initiative and I`m sure the programme of events will prove popular with both tourists and local people.”
